Palaces, Castles and Gardens in Saxony

Saxony boasts around 1,000 castles, palaces, gardens, and manor houses. Many of them are located within just a 30-minute drive from the LuxOase. Castle festivals, knightly tournaments, museums, exhibitions, concerts, and theater performances offer unforgettable holiday experiences in places where high society once strolled.

Children especially enjoy searching for the castle ghost said to haunt the cellars of Stolpen Castle, located only about 10 km from LuxOase. This castle is famous for the tragic fate of Countess Cosel, the most renowned mistress of Augustus the Strong. Rammenau Baroque Palace, just 11 km away, features well-preserved, fully furnished interiors, outbuildings, a manor estate, and a beautiful park. Klippenstein Castle, situated right in the neighboring town, is perfect for a short family outing - even by bicycle. Pillnitz Palace, only 19 km away, boasts one of Saxony’s most magnificent park landscapes. Perhaps the grandest garden created by Augustus the Strong is the Großsedlitz Baroque Garden , located on the opposite bank of the Elbe River from Pillnitz. Not far from there, Weesenstein Castle enchants visitors with its wonderfully preserved rooms, furniture, and tapestries - making it an excellent excursion destination even in bad weather. Also on the southern side of the Elbe lies one of Germany’s largest fortress complexes: Königstein Fortress. It was never conquered throughout its history and still towers majestically above the Elbe Valley in Saxon Switzerland.
